Introduction to Cross-Stitch

Learn the basics of cross-stitch and how to create a custom canvas template using Cricut Design Space and the Cricut Maker. No experience needed; all materials provided. Ages 18+

Cross-stitch is a form of embroidery in which X-shaped stitches (called cross stitches) are worked on an evenly woven fabric to create images, patterns, and decorative designs. Because the fabric is made from evenly woven threads that form a grid, each stitch functions like a pixel, making cross-stitch an accessible and beginner-friendly craft that combines creativity, patience, and precision. Designs can range from simple geometric patterns and lettering to detailed landscapes, portraits, and intricate works of art. 

In this hands-on introductory workshop, you'll learn how to choose materials, master basic stitches, and troubleshoot common issues as you work.

We'll also explore how to use Cricut Design Space and the Cricut Maker to create custom templates for your cross-stitch canvas. You'll learn how to import or create simple designs in the software and use the Cricut to draw a personalized template directly onto your canvas.

By the end of the session, you'll have the knowledge, tools, and materials needed to begin your cross-stitch journey. While we'll start our projects during the workshop, cross-stitch is time-intensive, so you'll likely need to continue working on your project at home.

All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is required.

Important Note: We are unable to offer refunds for participants who are late or missed their program. As well, if a registered participant has not arrived within 15 minutes of the start program time, their spot may be given to a walk-in participant who can pay the materials fee at the Service Desk.

Need to cancel? Please let us know. 

 If you have to cancel your spot for any reason, you can do so by: 

 1.    Logging into MyEvents using your library card.  If you did not register with your library card, you will need the reference number you received in your confirmation email. 

 2.    Phone your local branch, or email oplreference@oakville.ca. Please have ready the program title, program date, and names of registered individuals.
