Introduction to Needlepoint

Learn the basics of needlepoint and create a custom canvas guide using Cricut Design Space and the Cricut Maker. No experience needed; all materials provided. Ages 18+

Needlepoint, also known as tapestry or canvas work, is a form of embroidery in which thread is stitched through a stiff, open-weave canvas. While needlepoint was popularized in 16th-century Europe, similar embroidery techniques date back to ancient Egypt. Although needlepoint includes a variety of stitches, most designs are created using a simple diagonal tent stitch, which gives needlepoint its distinctive appearance.

In this hands-on introductory workshop, you'll learn how to choose materials, master basic stitches, and troubleshoot common issues as you work.

We'll also explore how to use Cricut Design Space and the Cricut Maker to create custom guides for your needlepoint canvas. You'll learn how to import or create simple designs in the software and use the Cricut to draw a personalized template directly onto your canvas.

By the end of the session, you'll have the knowledge, tools, and materials needed to begin your needlepoint journey. While we'll get our projects started during the workshop, needlepoint is a time-intensive craft, so you'll likely need to continue working on your project at home.

All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is required.

Important Note: We are unable to offer refunds for participants who are late or missed their program. As well, if a registered participant has not arrived within 15 minutes of the start program time, their spot may be given to a walk-in participant who can pay the materials fee at the Service Desk.

 1.    Logging into MyEvents using your library card.  If you did not register with your library card, you will need the reference number you received in your confirmation email.
