Learn to take a life and turn it into a page-turning story.
Lynn Palermo, genealogy educator and writing coach, will use her own ancestors to demonstrate how to take an ancestor’s life and map out a family history story. She’ll walk you through the components of a family history story map, how to identify the major scenes that create a story, and how to organize those scenes into a page-turning narrative. Learn the difference between scene and summary along with the layers of the story. Once you learn to plot a family history story, you’ll leave behind the dry narrative summary once and for all.
Attendees can expect to learn:
- What is a plot?
- How to find a plot in your research
- Components of a story map
- Outlining a story using a story map
- The three layers of any story
- How to create a writing plan with a storyboard
