Preserve family, cultural and community stories by transforming them into engaging children's books. Learn how to share stories that matter with the next generation. Ages 18+

Every family, neighbourhood, and community has stories worth preserving. Children's books offer a powerful way to share local history, cultural traditions, personal experiences, and community memories with the next generation. 

Join award-winning authors Charmaine Hammond and Sara Furlong for an inspiring virtual workshop exploring how heritage stories can be transformed into engaging children's books. Whether you have a family story, a local history topic, memories of life in Oakville, or cultural traditions you hope to pass on, this session will help you identify the stories that matter most and consider how they can be shared with young readers. 

Participants will learn how to identify stories worth preserving, match a story to the appropriate children's age group, develop a compelling book concept, avoid common pitfalls, and take practical first steps toward turning an idea into a book or book series. 

No writing or publishing experience is required. Whether you're a family historian, community storyteller, local history enthusiast, educator, or aspiring author, you'll leave with fresh ideas and clear next steps for preserving and sharing stories that might otherwise be lost.
